OK Go

I have found some more fun music. This is courtesy of All Things Considered. The band is called OK Go. They have some fun pop music and a really funny video called "A Million Ways". Check it out.

In local news - my kids were looking through their baby pictures yesterday and found a picture of their dad - my charming husband. Here is the comment of the week. "Gee Dad, you used to be really cool looking!" I had to run to the back of the house to hide my sniggering. I'm not going to ask them about my pictures...

Foghorn Leghorn (pre 'possum)

Foghorn Leghorn

We had a scene right out of an old Warner Brothers cartoon last night. About 3 am hubby wakes up to loud squawking and barking and much goings on in the yard. He heads out with a stick and a flashlight to find 1) our largest rooster missing most of his tail feathers and looking stunned 2) our retriever mix, Jennie standing guard and looking confused 3) a large 'possum - playing possum. My husband - ever the wildlife expert - walks up to the possum and explains that he "ain't that stupid." (I love how my California punk has assimilated so well into the South) After a couple of pokes with the stick, the possum realized he'd better get a move on. The dog then got most irate and saw the hissing critter off with much barking and growling. The rooster is fine, although missing some of his dignity this morning.

I remember scenes just like this on Saturday morning cartoons. Foghorn Leghorn is now living in my yard. I'm waiting for some chicken hawks and an ostrich. I can just see Miss Prissy looking on and batting her eyelashes.

Back to School

The kids are back in school - 8th grade - big dogs in a small yard. I haven't seen them so excited to go back to school since the 1st grade. I'm loving the fact that I don't have to officially go back for another week and I've got the house to myself for a few days. Do you know that I can't remember the last time I was actually alone in my house? Ahhh, turn up the stereo and play some computer games.

Chickens are Vegetables

If you are a vegetarian, as is my sister, I can assure you that chicken is a vegetable. After living with a flock of them all summer (and enjoying them thoroughly), I am absolutely convinced of this. I also have a flock - no wait - a garden of tomatoes; so I do know the difference.

Look - 6 roosters, 2 hens. Crowing. 6 a.m. I don't have to work. VEGETABLES.
