Bare Trees

Does anyone remember the old Fleetwood Mac album called Bare Trees? It was before Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham joined the band. I used to lay on the floor in my living room and look out at the grey skies listening to that album. My son wanted to try out the new camera this morning. The result is below.

Skiwee

This is the big week for the ski slopes in our area. I'm on day 4 of teaching children to ski. The kids are great. The parents are mostly great. The few parents who are not great need to step back and look at the big picture. When one is four years old - one does not need to be able to race gates. One needs to play, laugh and have a lovely time. Snow is an amazing thing and children have a wonderful appreciation of a hill covered in frozen water. Smile, laugh and fall down. It's all okay.

Inspiration

My inspiration for blogging was at the ski mountain yesterday. She is a photographer for our local newspaper. She not only takes beautiful photos of our Blue Ridge Mountains, she has quite a knack for writing as well. Please check out Blue Ridge Blog at http://blueridgeblog.blogs.com/. I'm going to work on some photos to add later today. Wish me luck!

Making snow

Snow?

I'm off to teach skiing this morning. Even in the sunny southeast we have skiing and snow. The runs are more like sprints, but down is down and snow is snow. I'll take what I can get! Our weather this week, usually a snow island in the midst of warm, has shown us snow to the west and now snow to the east. It's cold here, so the Wizzards can make snow, but we have clear blue skies.

Lemony Snicket

We had our annual Christmas movie outing today - Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. The movie maintained the books' wicked sense of humor without becoming horribly depressing. As a parent of 2 newly minted teenagers, I find the wit and sarcasm to be very entertaining. I still like listening to the audio books the best...
